Guide

Everything about eggs, koi and genes. Numbers marked as draft follow the current design and will be fixed as rules v1 before launch. All prices exclude Sui gas.

Getting started

Connect a Sui wallet with the Connect button. There are no accounts or sign-ups; your wallet is your identity.

Your first koi comes from a genesis egg or from another player. Genesis eggs are sold publicly until all 1,000 are gone, at 1 SUI each and one per wallet. There is no sale deadline and no team allocation. One per wallet is not one per person: the contract cannot stop someone from using several wallets.

Genesis koi get no exclusive genes and no breeding bonus. “Genesis” only describes the first sale.

Hatching

An egg hatches 24 hours after it is created. An accelerator (1 SUI) hatches it immediately.

The koi's genes are drawn on-chain when the egg hatches, so nobody can see them in advance. The egg is burned and a koi is minted in its place.

A freshly hatched koi can breed the same day, even if it was hatched with an accelerator.

The pond

The pond in the app shows the koi in your wallet, up to 100 at once. If you own more, choose which ones to show. Anyone can visit; your koi appear after you connect.

Pond maps are backdrops only: every map shows the same koi. Positions and choices are not saved anywhere. Feeding is for fun and has no effect on breeding odds or rewards. A koi's Temperament gene changes how it swims and how quickly it goes for food.

Breeding

Every breeding produces one egg for the person who asked for it. There are three ways to breed:

  • Two of your own koi — 1 SUI. Any two different koi work, including parents and children or siblings. One koi cannot be both parents.
  • The stud — pair one of your koi with a listed koi at the owner's price (at least 1 SUI). The owner does not need to approve each request. You set a maximum price; if the price rose above it, the transaction fails.
  • A wild koi — 1 SUI. Your koi is paired with a virtual wild koi whose genes are drawn from the same table as genesis eggs. Its genes are recorded on the egg and the lineage is marked WILD.

Each koi you own that takes part then rests. After its 1st breeding it rests 1 day, after the 2nd 2 days, and from the 7th onward 7 days. Offspring start at zero. There is no lifetime breeding limit.

Gene science

A koi has nine gene loci: Body, Pattern Color, Pattern, Pattern Size, Scales, Fins, Luster, Temperament and Spirit. Each locus stores one visible gene (D) that decides the look and two hidden genes (R1, R2) that can surface in later generations. Browse every value in the gene catalogue.

When two koi breed, each locus is decided like this:

  1. The six genes of both parents become candidates, weighted D 75, R1 18.75 and R2 6.25.
  2. Each candidate's weight is multiplied by its rarity: common 1, uncommon 0.75, rare 0.45, mutation-only 0.25.
  3. The child's visible gene is drawn once from those weights.
  4. The child's hidden genes are drawn from the same six candidates using the base weights only, so rare genes stay in the bloodline.

Example: breeding a parent whose genes are all rare with one whose genes are all common shows a rare value about 31% of the time (0.45 ÷ 1.45), before mutations. If both parents carry the same rare value in every slot, the child gets it every time.

No gene changes fees, cooldowns or success rates.

Mutations and Spirit

Each egg has a 0.5% chance of a mutation, affecting at most one locus.

  • 80% of mutations swap in another allowed value that neither parent carries.
  • 20% can awaken a Spirit gene if the parents qualify, for example Snow with Slate (Silverwake), Cloud with Moonlight (Mist), or Vermilion with Ink (Lotus Glow). Otherwise it becomes a normal mutation.

So Spirit appears in at most 0.1% of qualifying eggs. Once it appears it is stored in the genes and can be inherited, with the mutation-only weight of 0.25.

Release and rewards

Releasing a koi burns the NFT for good and gives you a release receipt. A released koi's genes are never used again, including in wild breeding.

For 30 days after the release, each valid receipt earns an equal share of the 50% of wild breeding fees set aside for releasers. Several releases mean several shares. Rewards build up and you claim them yourself; anything earned can still be claimed after the 30 days.

How much you earn depends on how many wild breedings happen and how many receipts are valid at the time. There is no guaranteed amount.

Trading

Koi can be bought and sold between players. Trading is planned on Sui Kiosk. A koi's breeding cooldown carries over to its new owner. A koi cannot be listed for sale and at the stud at the same time.
